Create and apply video player profiles

Goal

Save a player profile and apply it to a video with an intentional update policy.

Prerequisites

• Sign in to Stackshift and select the Assets space you want to work in.
• Your role must permit the actions you perform in that space.

Workflow

Create or load a profile

Open Player Studio. Choose a video to preview the player while editing. Select New profile or load a saved profile; switching profiles with unsaved edits asks you whether to discard them. Enter a recognizable Profile name such as “Product pages” or “Tutorials.” Use as space default sets the default profile for the space. A profile is reusable presentation configuration; it does not create a second copy of the video. Saved profiles show their current revision, and pinned uses retain their saved revision.

Set the player identity

Identity contains Title, Brand name, appearance, logo and poster. Appearance can Match site theme, Light controls or Dark controls. Choose logo and Choose poster select image assets; Replace changes the selection and Remove clears it. Logo and poster selections refer to saved asset versions. Check their appearance against both light and dark pages, and choose a poster that represents the actual video. The player’s title display is controlled separately by Show title.

Configure playback behavior

Playback provides Show controls, Show title, Autoplay, muted, Start muted, Loop video, Allow speed selection and Allow quality selection. Starting speed offers 0.5×, 0.75×, 1×, 1.25×, 1.5× and 2×. Autoplay starts muted and remains subject to browser autoplay policy. A viewer may still need to press Play. Allow quality selection exposes available renditions; it cannot create a quality that the video package does not contain. When the video ends can show replay, hold the last frame or return to the poster. The end-behavior setting is disabled while looping. Preferred caption language selects among captions already attached to the video; leaving it empty starts with captions off.

Save and apply a revision

Save the profile before applying it. In Use this profile, choose whether to Follow future profile updates, then apply it to the selected video. Following is useful for site-wide branding changes; pinning is useful when a campaign must keep an exact reviewed presentation. Changing a profile draft is not the same as changing a published media reference. Confirm the profile revision and association after saving. If you selected the wrong video, choose the correct source before applying. A failed association request should be retried after checking current state.

Archive and maintain profiles

Archive a profile when it should no longer be selected for new work. Read the archive confirmation and inspect existing uses before changing a shared profile. Use a duplicate when experimenting with a variation that should not immediately affect following consumers. For per-video presentation and embed settings, open the video’s player/embedding controls. Test the copied embed in its destination page, including theme, mobile width, captions, autoplay fallback and video end behavior.

Embed and measure the player

Use the documented React or JavaScript component callbacks to resolve playback sessions. Store profile and media identities rather than temporary session URLs. Keep backend credentials out of the page. The existing player integration guide includes complete callback and caption examples. Open Manage → Analytics to compare player activity, including a specific profile and revision. Separate customer plays from Studio previews before assessing the effect of a profile change.
