Goal

Create a ClickHouse database for analytics and connect over HTTPS or the native protocol.

Prerequisites

  • A StackShift account
  • A ClickHouse client or driver

Workflow

1
Create a database and choose ClickHouse. New databases use 26.8.
2
Connect over HTTPS or the native protocol with the details from the database page.
3
Create MergeTree tables for your data and check inserts with a SELECT count().

Versions

  • 26.8 is a long-term support release and the default for new databases.
  • 26.3 stays available for databases that already run it.

Backups

ClickHouse databases are backed up automatically with full and incremental backups. A restore creates a new database and leaves the original unchanged.

Expected result

Your client connects and queries return data.

Common failures

  • Connection refused on the native port from outside StackShift: private endpoints only accept connections from your apps; turn on public access for a laptop session.

Create a database

Create a hosted or connected-node database with private, direct public, or StackShift tunnel access.

Database connections and tunneling

Use private, direct public, or StackShift tunnel endpoints with TLS and explicit client IP policy.

Back up and restore a database

Use durable recovery storage correctly and understand why backups are independent from portable SQL transfers.
