Goal

Choose the right Publishing option for a web app, SSH access, or a custom domain.

Prerequisites

  • A running StackShift Compute VPS with the Publishing tab visible on its detail page.

Workflow

Open Compute, select the VPS, and open Publishing.

Choose Publish app for an HTTP service, Enable edge SSH for remote login, or both.

Use Domains on a published app if you also want to connect a domain you own.

Choose what you need

  • A public HTTPS address for an app: choose Web publishing and enter the guest HTTP port. StackShift gives the route a name such as myapp.compute.stackshift.cloud.
  • SSH from a network without working IPv6: choose Edge SSH. StackShift displays an SSH hostname, unique port, and login user. Keep using the private key authorized on your VPS.
  • Your own web domain: publish the app first, then open Domains on that publication. Add the domain and complete the displayed TXT and A/AAAA DNS records.
  • Coolify or Dokploy: use Edge SSH if the manager needs to administer the VPS remotely. Publish its app through the guest’s HTTP proxy port after adding the new hostname to the app.

What the edge does

StackShift provides the public hostname and forwards its traffic to the port you select on your VPS. The connection passes through the StackShift edge and the compute host. You do not install a StackShift agent inside the VPS. Your VPS keeps full root access, its existing IP addresses, SSH keys, applications, and direct connections. Publishing does not assign the VPS a dedicated public IPv4 address or move existing domains.

Limits and access

  • You can create up to 20 web routes per VPS, add up to two custom domains to each route, and enable one Edge SSH endpoint per VPS.
  • Nothing is published automatically. Each web route or SSH endpoint is enabled from that VPS’s Publishing tab.
  • If Publishing is not visible on your VPS, contact StackShift support. Your VPS and its existing direct access keep working.

Publish a VPS web app

Map a StackShift HTTPS hostname to one selected HTTP port on a full-root Compute VPS.

Prove ownership with DNS TXT, point A or AAAA directly at the edge, and attach the hostname to an existing web publication.

Use a VPS with Coolify or Dokploy

Use Edge SSH to manage the VPS remotely and Web publishing to expose an app already running behind Coolify or Dokploy.
