Goal
Build an accurate report for the media and activity you intend to measure.Prerequisites
- Sign in to Stackshift and select the Assets space you want to work in.
- Your role must permit the actions you perform in that space.
Workflow
1
Open Manage → Analytics and choose video or image reporting.
2
Set activity, date and optional asset/profile/recipe filters.
3
Apply filters and inspect coverage, freshness and metrics.
4
Export the report or use demo data to learn the layout.
Choose the activity you want to measure
Open Manage → Analytics. The default report covers the last seven days in the Assets space timezone. Choose video for playback metrics or image for transformation and delivery metrics. Customer activity, Studio previews and Sample activity are separate categories. Use Customer activity when measuring audience engagement; choose Studio previews when investigating your own editing tests. Combining these mentally can make a frequently previewed asset look more popular than it is with customers.Apply date, asset and revision filters
Set From and Through, choose an asset when you want a single-media report, and use the available player-profile or recipe filter for the selected report kind. Video reporting includes an optional Profile revision so you can distinguish behavior before and after a player change. Apply the filters before interpreting the report. Save space timezone changes the space’s reporting timezone; use an IANA timezone such as Europe/London or Africa/Lagos. Date buckets and displayed report timestamps follow that timezone, which matters when comparing daily totals with another system.Interpret video engagement
Starts counts sessions that reach a playing frame. Watched time is displayed in seconds. Completion requires reaching the end after watching at least 90% of the unique timeline. Replays add watched time without duplicating completed sessions. Startup time measures playback startup; error rate uses attempted sessions, and buffering excludes startup. These metrics describe observed player activity, not guaranteed unique people. A viewer can start more than once, and browsers that block or interrupt telemetry can leave gaps. Use the report’s How to read this report explanation and compare the same filters when investigating a change. Session counts and rates use the session authorization day; watched time and buffering use the event day. Raw events are retained for 30 days and aggregates for 13 months. Missing historical dimensions are not estimated.Interpret image processing
Image reporting includes transformations, failures, cache hits, file bytes saved, average processing duration, worker attempts and actual origin response bytes when available. Top transformations groups recipe activity, and the daily report lets you inspect the trend behind summary values. File bytes saved compares source and output sizes; it is not measured transfer savings. Worker attempts and transformations are not interchangeable counts. Actual origin bytes measure publication response bodies; range-based delivery estimates are separate. CDN cache hits and edge transfer are unavailable, so do not interpret them as zero or substitute processing cache hits for CDN hits.Check freshness, coverage and empty reports
The report shows its timezone, coverage start and last update. A report without activity for the selected filters is different from a failed request. Inspect the date range, activity category, asset and revision filters before concluding there has been no use. A dash indicates a metric that was not provided. Do not turn it into a zero in a business report. If Analytics is unavailable, retry the request and check access to the selected space. Coverage information limits how far back a meaningful comparison can go.Use demo data and export CSV
Explore demo data displays a synthetic dataset so you can learn the report layout before customer events arrive. It is labeled Demo dataset and excluded from usage and billing. Return to your data before making decisions about real activity. Export CSV downloads assets-analytics.csv for the current report selection. Include the report filters, timezone and freshness when sharing the file with someone else, so they can reproduce the comparison. Verify you are exporting customer data rather than interpreting a demo chart as a real result.Connect analytics to publishing decisions
For a new player profile, compare the same asset and comparable time ranges by profile revision. For an image template, compare the intended recipe and inspect both processing failures and output size. A smaller output is useful only if its visual quality and delivery behavior meet the page’s needs. Use player and telemetry integration for event delivery, image optimization for responsive outputs, and WordPress integration for publishing approved media on a site.Expected result
Build an accurate report for the media and activity you intend to measure.
