Generate and edit images with AI

Goal

Create a new image or an edited copy while keeping the original available.

Prerequisites

• Sign in to Stackshift and select the Assets space you want to work in.
• Your role must permit the actions you perform in that space.

Workflow

Choose an action

Generate an image starts from an instruction and does not require a source. Remove background isolates the foreground. Replace background creates a new setting. Extract visual content keeps or removes a described subject. Enhance image adjusts exposure, detail and noise reduction. Restyle image changes the appearance using your instruction. Analyze image and Suggest a smart crop produce information that helps with further editing. Open Playground and choose AI-Powered to find the corresponding tools, or choose the action in AI image generation & editing in Image Studio. For edits, choose a ready source image first. AI actions use the billing owner’s shared AI credit pool, or an explicitly selected customer provider key. Write an instruction that preserves what matters

Describe the subject, desired change and features that should remain unchanged. For a product background replacement, try: “Place the bottle on a matte stone counter with soft side lighting. Preserve the label, bottle shape and cap color.” For generation, include subject, composition, lighting and intended aspect ratio. Choose the requested output dimensions: 1024 × 1024, 1536 × 1024 or 1024 × 1536. The request uses PNG output. These are requested dimensions; inspect the returned image rather than assuming that a provider result will always match every requested characteristic.

Extract a subject or target a region

For Extract visual content, enter Subject to isolate, such as “the bottle on the left.” Choose whether to keep that subject and remove surrounding content or remove that subject and keep the surroundings. The instruction can clarify ambiguous objects. Use source-pixel selection enables x, y, width and height fields. Enter coordinates relative to the original source pixels, not the dimensions of the preview on your screen. Keep the selection inside the source bounds. Start with a clear region around the subject, then inspect the result for changes outside the intended area.

Enhance with controlled adjustments

Enhance image exposes Exposure from -1 to 1 and Detail and Noise reduction from 0 to 1. Start with modest adjustments, compare the completed output with the original, and increase them only when needed. Strong enhancement can alter fine text, fabric, skin or packaging detail. Smart-crop suggestions can be applied in the image-editing workflow. Analysis and crop suggestions are not substitutes for viewing the actual output; check the subject’s position at the destination aspect ratio.

Follow, cancel and retry requests

Choose Generate image or Run action once the settings are ready. Request history shows the action, status and request reference. Use View image when an output asset is available. A successful job creates an output you can inspect and organize in your library. Cancel request is available for requests that have not finished. A cancellation request may be recorded before processing actually stops. For failed or reconciling requests, use Retry on the existing history item rather than repeatedly submitting new copies. If cancellation cannot be confirmed, refresh the status.

Review generated work before reuse

Inspect text, product details, transparent edges and the intended subject. Use Image Studio for deterministic follow-up edits, such as a precise crop, resize or logo overlay. Create a publication from the approved result when it is ready for a website or gallery. The original remains available. Generated output and its request history provide a traceable starting point for later revisions. If an action cannot start, first check source readiness and the displayed request error; administrators can then check account AI configuration and processing availability.
