# Add chat to your website

> Put a Support chat window on your website and send messages to your team.

<Note>
  This guide includes features awaiting release. If an option is not available in your workspace, contact StackShift Support.
</Note>

## What you can do

Put a Support chat window on your website and send messages to your team. Where to find it: Settings → Installations.

## Before you start

* A brand and inbox.
* Access to your website’s settings or a website manager who can add the supplied integration.

## Steps

<Steps>
  <Step>
    Create an installation for the intended environment, brand and inbox.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Add each allowed website origin: the exact protocol and domain, such as [https://www.your-business.example](https://www.your-business.example). A different subdomain or port is a different origin.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Copy the installation’s public configuration and follow the web integration guide. Ask your website manager to add it if you do not edit your website yourself.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Keep any identity-signing secret on your server. Only the public installation key belongs in the browser.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Open your actual allowed website in a fresh session, open the messenger and send a test message. Reply from Support and verify the reply appears.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Check the widget on mobile and desktop and after signing out of your website. If your site identifies logged-in customers, verify that switching accounts clears the previous person’s messages.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Example

Install one widget on your shop’s public site, routed to the Customer support inbox.

## Things to know

* An installation belongs to one environment and brand. Do not reuse test configuration for live traffic without checking its scope.
* Adding a website origin does not install the widget on that website. The integration must still be included by its owner.

## What happens next

<Check>
  Visitors can open chat on your approved website and your staff can answer from the linked inbox.
</Check>

## If something goes wrong

<Warning>
  * Widget blocked: compare the browser address with the installation’s allowed origins, including www and protocol.
  * Messages go to the wrong inbox: check the installation’s selected environment and inbox.
  * Customer identity is incorrect: ask the developer to review signed identity and sign-out handling; never fix it by sharing customer sessions.
</Warning>
