# Notifications

> Use the notifications surfaces to stay aware of platform activity and alerts.

<Tip>
  **Live.** This area is documented as current, user-reliable behavior.
</Tip>

## Goal

Explain where notifications fit relative to operations alerts and resource detail pages.

## Prerequisites

* A signed-in account

## Workflow

<Steps>
  <Step>
    Use notifications for account-level awareness.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Use operations alerts for platform health prioritization.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Notifications versus alerts

Notifications are part of the account experience. Operations alerts are the platform-health prioritization surface. They overlap, but they do not serve the same job.

## When to use each surface

* Use notifications when you want account-level awareness of product activity.
* Use operations alerts when you are triaging runtime or platform problems.
* Use resource detail pages when you need the full evidence for one workload or node.

## What the notification settings and inbox include

* Pause duration and quiet-hours controls
* Delivery-channel configuration for email and Slack webhook behavior
* A searchable inbox with read state, category filters, and navigation into the relevant resource or operations page

## Expected result

<Check>
  Notifications and operational alerts are not confused for each other.
</Check>
