# Navigate Assets and use starter samples

> Find your media, use starter images, videos and models, inspect versions, and choose the right studio.

## Goal

Upload or import media into your space, inspect it, and open the appropriate editing workflow.

## Prerequisites

* Sign in to Stackshift and select the Assets space you want to work in.
* Your role must permit the actions you perform in that space.

## Workflow

<Steps>
  <Step>
    Select a space and upload media or choose a starter sample.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Find the asset in Library and open its viewer.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Choose Image Studio, Video Studio or 3D Studio for editing.
  </Step>

  <Step>
    Review saved outputs before publishing or sharing them.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Choose your working space

Open Assets from the dashboard. Use the Asset space selector before uploading or editing: it determines the library, collections, processing jobs and saved resources you are working with. A similarly named file in another space is a different asset.

The main navigation starts with Library, followed by 3D Studio, Video Studio, Player Studio, Image Studio, Images, Videos, Samples, Playground, Review, Galleries and Uploads. Manage opens Portals, Analytics, Metadata, Access, Transform Presets, Workflows, Security Policy, Branches and Operations. The navigation scrolls horizontally on smaller screens.

## Upload and follow progress

Choose Upload, select files or drop them into the upload area, and choose the destination required by the upload form. Files are added to an upload queue. Follow each file independently; a finished upload does not imply that every queued file succeeded. Large uploads use resumable sessions.

Use Uploads to follow progress and retry failed items. If the upload is interrupted, return to the queue before selecting the same file repeatedly. Once transfer is complete, allow any processing shown for the asset to finish before rendering or publishing. See [upload behavior and organization](/assets/upload-ux-and-dam) and [direct browser uploads](/assets/direct-browser-uploads) for application integrations.

## Browse the starter catalog

Open Samples to explore the starter catalog of 15 images, 15 videos and 15 3D models. Filter by media type and use the search field to narrow the results. These are starter assets for trying the tools; sample titles and licenses are shown with the catalog entries.

Open the sample preview before choosing Use sample. Choose Create workspace copy in the confirmation to copy the sample as a private asset that counts toward your storage. Importing a sample creates an asset in your selected space; work on that imported asset when you want to render, organize or publish your own result. Reusing a sample does not give you ownership of the shared catalog entry. Keep the displayed license and attribution requirements with any media you distribute.

Source pickers also let you choose library media or samples. In 3D Studio, Starter models opens the sample picker directly. If a sample does not open, retry its preview and check that the sample exists in the current catalog. An empty filtered list means no match, not that every media type is empty.

## Find and organize media

Library supports search and media-type navigation. Use buckets, collections and the available filters to reduce a large result set before selecting a source. A collection groups assets without requiring you to upload copies. Saved searches preserve a useful selection of filters.

Use the asset-card action menu for actions available to that item. Opening the asset is different from downloading it: the viewer provides an inspection workspace while Download saves bytes to your device. For shared spaces, available actions reflect your role and the asset’s current state. See [library, spaces and sharing](/assets/library-spaces-and-sharing) for permissions and collection boundaries.

## Inspect an image before editing

Open the image from the library to use the in-app viewer. Fit frames the available preview, zoom controls change magnification, and actual-size/original controls help inspect detail. Pan when zoomed in, use the transparency checker for alpha edges, and use Fullscreen for a larger inspection area.

The viewer may initially use a resized preview. Load the original when checking full-resolution detail or animation. Inspect Summary, metadata, versions and derived outputs where available. A preview error is not evidence that the asset has been deleted: retry the preview, then verify the selected version and your access.

## Choose the right tool

Image Studio creates ordered image transformations and reusable templates. Playground opens a selected tool with suitable starting settings. Video Studio edits footage and extracts audio or posters. Player Studio changes how a video is presented to viewers. 3D Studio provides the interactive model canvas, camera and material workflows.

A saved output, a published asset and a published gallery serve different purposes. Save your editing result first, select that result in a publication when ready to distribute it, and build galleries from those publications. This preserves the exact version you intended to share.

## Expected result
